landing on people's homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians. >> joining us now from gaza is nbc's reporter. what's the latest this morning? >> reporter: good morning, mika. they've pushed that up now over the past six days of fighting the death toll stands at 95 palestinians, 23 of them children, more than 640 wounded palestinians since this conflict began last wednesday. one of the incidents you referred to and one that's drawing a lot of national media attention into what exactly happened when this family was killed. it took place sunday morning and it was the house of a top hamas official. in that house were several families. it was a three-story building with 12 people inside of it. all 12 people were killed. ten of those 12 were from a single family including four children and four women. now people here are extremely angered by it. they're saying this is the kind of disproportionate use of force that israel is using to exact a heavy toll on the palestinian population here. at the same time others are citing similar examples across gaza. there's still very much an on

territory. they say they targeted the national islamic bank which they accuse hamas of using to pay its employees. an nbc analysis found israel has killed nearly 40 hamas militants over the last week, often using high precision drone strikes but the civilian toll has been high as well. thousands of people turned out for the funerals of four young children killed in an israeli air strike. meanwhile, israel's so-called iron dome missile defense has helped keep most missiles out of heavily populated areas. still some have made it through, like this rocket that hit a school. joining us now, nbc's eamon ayman in gaza. >> reporter: according to israeli military, more than 100 hit the gaza strip. this morning palestinian officials say the death toll from the past seven days has now reached 115 palestinians. nearly a third of them children. earlier this morning, four killed, two brothers and a father killed in an incident that pushed that death toll up to 115. all of this happening against a back drop of continuing violence. palestinian factions were still able to fire at least 50 rockets into

for hamas. nbc's martin fletcher has been following the latest and he joins us live from tel aviv. martin. >> reporter: good morning, brian. well, did hamas get the message that the israeli prime minister was talking about? apparently not. they fired rockets towards tel aviv always mentioned. a game changer for israel if those rockets had actually landed and done damage in tel aviv. they didn't. two landed short and exploded harmlessly in feels and one landed harmlessly in the sea but more important for the symbolism than the effect. israel's main goal apart from eliminating the militant islamic leadership of hamas has been to destroy their rocket capability aiming most of rare raids, more than 450 in the last couple of days, at destroying the long-range rocket capability of hamas so the fact that they were able to launch three rockets which failed just short of tel aviv. well, that says something that israel needs to as netanyahu said expand its operations if it wants to destroy that capability. so ground war is the option. but the sirens in tel aviv were frightening. of course, not the

in the region. that is martin fletcher. he is live in tel aviv with the very latest right now. martin, give us a sense if you can. we already have a good understanding of the tensions between israel and iran. the tensions in recent days between israel and its neighbor to the sort of north, syria. and now this new test between israel and new islamist government in egypt. what should we be watching for? >> reporter: well, this potentially is very dangerous situation. on the brink -- on press hiss, israel attacking gaza killing the leader yesterday who by the way was the top of israel's hit list for ten years. but just as significant was israel's concentration on the rocket facilities, the storage of hamas in gaza, focusing on the long distance rockets. israel wants to eliminate the rocket threat against its cities from gaza. you mentioned in your introduction i think it is 850 rockets fired this year at israel. they fired 100 the last five days. that's what provoked the response. now the problem is that israel, it was sensed that israel's hands were tied because of their relationship with egypt.
